Tree Planting
Trees4Trees™ encourages the planting of a diverse range of timber species so that benefits can be maximized for growers and the environment. By planting tree species that mature at different ages growers receive an income from the harvesting of different species at intervals through the life of the trees. This diversified approach also helps to assure that the lands are continuously stabilized by a mix of species. Integration of fruit trees provide additional income and food sources.
Trees4Trees™ provides seedlings of species that have high commercial value to program participants. Species include Teak, Mahogany, Mango, Albizia, Sonokeling, Suren and Mindi. Tree species are matched to grower needs, site conditions and market potential.

Spacing of plants depends on each species, the plot layout, associated land use of the landholder and their intended intensity of forest management.
Groups of forest trees are planted at a spacing of 3m x 2m grid. Planting at this stocking rate encourages good tree form and allows provision for tree selection and thinning to optimize growth and maximize wood production.
Successful tree planting requires that healthy tree seedlings be planted correctly, adequate soil moisture is maintained, pest and diseases are checked and that weeds are controlled. The first 3 years is the critical period when intensive maintenance is required.
