Community Forestry
A gem with many facets...
Our annual cycle includes recruiting new planters, producing seedlings, monitoring planted trees, training field coordinators, providing education for land owners and in schools and working with our program partners to improve the quality of our services.
Successful community forestry encompasses the following components:
Trees4Trees™ philosophy embraces the principal that any environmental program involving forestry and land use can only be accomplished by considering the interests and cooperation of the local people.
Trees4Trees™ team members meet with interested landholders to learn about their needs and determine their site’s suitability for joining the program.
The majority of the seedlings distributed by the Program are produced by nurseries established in local communities by Trees4Trees. All of the seedlings are grown to meet a grading standard developed by Trees4Trees™.
Trees4Trees™ encourages the planting of a diverse range of timber species so that benefits can be maximized for growers and the environment.
Monitoring of the plantings is an essential requirement for good forestry practices and to maximize the success rate of the trees planted. The Trees4Trees™ planting process includes labeling the trees as a basis for identification and developing a database of standing stock.
The silviculture operations cover the activities associated with the management of the plantation from the initial planning activities through to harvesting and replanting of the forest.
