Successful forest management requires the full cooperation of the communities who are affected by these activities. Gaining this trust and cooperation requires a deep understanding of the area and its inhabitants. The people side of this exercise is called Social Impact Assessment (SIA) and considers a community’s culture and economy.
Preparation of 2011 Seedbed
The preparation of seedbed was aimed at preparing seedling as supply of 2011 Planting Program. It implemented in 3 locations: Banyumas, Purbalingga and Klaten with support fro State Agricultural Vocational School and Farmer Group. Seedlings prepared in the seedbed: Teak, Mahogany, Sengon, Suren and Mango.
During this period, Trees4Trees™ performed Social and Environmental Impact Assessment. The objective of environmental assessment was to identify positive and negative impact that have resulted from program activity towards surrounding environment.
Result of the assessment is Environmental Impact Assessment, Social Impact Assessment and High Conservation Value Report.
ACIAR cooperated withTrees4Trees to conduct research entitled 'Overcoming Constraints to Community Based Commercial Forestry in Indonesia.' In the cooperation, ACIAR will make use Pati Management Unit as one of research locations until December 2014, together with other locations developed by other parties, such Gunung Kidul, Bulukumba, Konawe and Sumbawa.
